Oak Trees, SR245
June is a great month to travel through the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada’s. Lower elevations get very warm but the higher into the mountains you drive the cooler the air gets.
State Route 245 from Exeter, California, on the way to Kings Canyon National Park offers a variety of terrain, vegetation, and views. This open stretch of road presented grass covered rolling hills dotted with oak trees.
Since this photo was made late morning in clear-skies daylight, I used some post-processing techniques to add texture to the sky, pull out tree detail, and give depth to the grass covered field. Basically I used digital darkroom versions of dodge and burn with a second image burned onto the sky.
