Located in Penn Valley, Nevada County, California, this park along 22 miles of the Yuba River contains about 2000 acres and is adjacent to another 9000 acres under federal jurisdiction.
Walking the Buttermilk Bend Trail, an easy trail approximately 1.25 miles long, provided new views with every step. The wildflowers were in bloom under a bright blue sky and the river was running fast with clear water. A perfect day by any standards!
It was a great day to walk with Mike (who took some of these photos) and our friends Pat and June. At the trailhead we encountered a sign unique to gold country. It contained the usual warning for no fires, no alcohol, no bikes, but gold panning is allowed! How cool is that!
